Curtis Brown has over 35 years of transaction and litigation experience in real estate, tax, business and estate planning, litigation, and trust and estate administration. He is licensed to practice law in the state courts of Texas and numerous federal courts, including the U. S. Tax Court. Before beginning his practice of law with a Dallas law firm in 1977, Mr. Brown practiced tax accounting in the Denver and New York City offices of one of the largest international accounting firms, where he became a CPA. He served as General Counsel for Interstate Battery System of America, Inc. during the 1980′s.
Mr. Brown mediates cases of all types, including large and complex cases, in numerous state and federal courts. He mediated a case that settled in a one-day session with 36 parties, attorneys and insurance representatives around the table. He had the privilege of mediating a case in which the late Senior Federal Judge Jerry Buchmeyer was personally a party in the litigation. Mr. Brown has lectured on various tax and legal topics, including as an Adjunct Professor of Law at Baylor Law School, State Bar of Texas and local bar association seminars, SMU Law School and Texas Tech Law School. Mr. Brown has served on the Judiciary Committee of the Dallas Bar Association and was elected Chairman of the Probate, Trusts and Estates Section of the Association. In 2000 he served as President of the Waco Estate Planning Council, a multi-disciplinary organization of attorneys, accountants, trust officers, and insurance and investment advisors. In 2007 Mr. Brown was elected to the Board of Directors of the Waco-McLennan County Bar Association.
Mr. Brown has earned from Martindale-Hubbell the rating of “A-V”, the highest rating both as to legal ability and general reputation. He is a member of the Texas Center for Legal Ethics and Professionalism.
Personal and Educational
Curtis Brown was born in 1951 in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Brown received his B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas Tech University in 1972. He earned his JurisDoctor degree in 1976 from The University of Texas School of Law. He also studied international comparative law at the University of Oxford, Oxford, England. Having been involved in numerous civic and community activities, Mr. Brown was selected as an Outstanding Young Man in America in 1985.
